I prefer to walk but end up riding more often than not. My home course is not setup to be an easy place to walk and my league 2 nights a week is mandatory cart. There is another course I play on weekends where I always walk or use my push cart....and I love it!

I tend to walk more in the fall and winter months, ride during the summer. No point trying to be a hero in the Atlanta summer. Thankfully, the club where I'm a member is easy to walk, but when I travel or play elsewhere usually carts are required.

The only time I ride is in events where everyone's in carts. I have a bad disk, L5-S1 and walking is good. In and out, plus the bumping around in a cart is hard on the back. I rode yesterday in a Member-Guest Day outing and my back's killing me today.

Plus, I believe golf was meant to be played on foot. I don't hold any ill opinions of those who ride because of health issues, but most people who ride most, or all of their rounds would benefit by walking more.

It is very course-specific and very weather-specific. Two of my local courses are walkable and it is enjoyable to throw the lighter bag on my push cart and enjoy the walk. My wife enjoys walking also. More rounds are spend behind the wheel.
We also must factor in the Carolina heat/humidity. Summer walking is probably not happening!

I like to walk. Sometimes I carry and sometimes I have my push cart. if its course that has lots of elevation changes I ride a cart to save my knees. I do like to walk more than riding - helps me keep my head in check when things are going sideways or too good.

I tend to ride. I work in a factory and am on my feet for 12 hours a day most days. On the weekends, I like to give my feet and knees a bit of a break.

Love walking a good golf course!!!
It's a bummer the majority of courses today require you to ride a cart in order to turn a profit.

I used to walk when I was younger, but 40 years of Ironwork has left me with several surgeries and other conditions that preclude me from walking anymore, so it's the golf cart for me from here on in. Being able to play is the main thing.

I like to walk. Slows/clams me down, I get to be to myself in my own thoughts, I get a chance to observe my surroundings, pay attention to the contour of the course, and once I got diagnosed with Diabetes 4 years ago, and did research on activities for Diabetics. Golf was one of the activities recommended for its walking. Like someone posted earlier, keep blood sugar under control, along with weight. If, I have to use a cart, I'll pull multiple clubs and walk to my ball. allow my partner to drive.

Part 2. With the Obesity Epidemic affected so many, I don't understand why courses won't assist the many "Get Moving Initiatives" promoted throughout the country by promoting more walking. I know all about the additional revenue, and that carts speed the game up. Which it doesn't. Keeping your ball in play does.

I always walked, unless it was a mandatory cart course. Bought an electric cart that I really enjoyed using.
Started having lower back issues last year, and now if I walk, I am in alot of discomfort by the 12-13th hole, so now I ride, which relieves the pressure on my lower back.

I enjoy walking, keeps me focused. I’ll when I have to but that’s few and far between.
  17. I agree with Dale V. Some of the new courses are designed with more distance between green and tee, riding is a must. I love to walk as much as I can. My favorite is walking 9 with my son late in the day.

Last winter while on our annual trip to Bandon, we only had 3 days to golf so after the first two days of 18 holes walking, we did 36 on the last day to squeeze in the other course. It almost killed me. Gave me an appreciation for the guys that do all for courses on the same day on the Summer Solstice. That's such a great walking resort. Only carts you see are maintenance and an occasional marshal. Mostly sandy walking trails. No concrete paths out on the course.
