At the start of most rounds, either bounce or medal, most golfer I’m playing with agree at start to keep it in unless we’re at close range. It definitely speeds up the round but if we’re close on the heels of players in front there’s no time saving really.

I feel if going for the flag on a tricky downhill putt, or from the edge of the green, in is fine. Everyone has their own opinion but during most rounds it does scrape a few minutes off the round to enable a quick drink at the 19tj with the lads before heading homeward.

If I’m on the green i prefer to have the pin out.

I agree it can speed play up for those who just “hit and hope” their putts (or if it’s a simple tap in) but if you’re reading your putts properly you should look from both sides of the hole and therefore it is just as quick to pull the flag out on the way past, giving better access to the hole for the ball (in the past have been robbed by putts bouncing out because of the pin).

I always used to leave it in when putting from just off the green, and now leave it for long putts, and fast downhill puts, take it out from about 10ft or closer, will sometimes tap in with it in, but it has to be very close, 18" or more I'll have it out. I'm not overly sure it's speeded play up that much as quite often it's in and out quite a few times during the play of a hole.

For me... in for long puts and out for short puts (within about 3 feet). I feel having it in helps me judge distance better for the longer ones though there are some exceptions. It does become a bit of a pain when someone in the group insists on always having it in or out so I will usually go with whatever is easiest.

I leave the flag in for Longer putts but take out 15 feet or less, but also noticed damage to the Cup.

Most golfers I play with leave it in, until we get 3-4 feet away. Then most have it removed. Less than 1 foot away, we leave it in. It is certainly quicker on longer putts not waiting for someone to attend the flag.
With ‘ready golf’ a 3 ball can play 18 holes in 3 1/2 hours‍♂️

It depends. I like to ask the guys in my group and I kind of go with what the majority likes. However, my personal preference is keeping it in until I get to about 5 feet or so and then I prefer it out. Something about the shorter putts that I just don't like having the pin in.

Anything under 10 feet, I like it out. Long putts, I leave it in.

Isn't speeding up play as far as I've found. Now we have guys who think it helps them so much (even when it's leaning toward them with the wind) and the rest are continuing to take it out. So now it's in and out back and forth. The only time I see it helping with time a little is when you would have otherwise had it tended in the old days because it is far away. I've seen more bounce off of it than bounce in this year.

I think it is so cool that this post started in january and ppl are still weighing in on the topic, TT at its best!

Long putts in, short putts (under 8 feet ish) out

I've been watching this since the change. In my opinion it slows play in my groups because some want in others don't. I like to leave it in for long putts so it doesn't need to be tended. Within 20' it always out. I have had too many putts that would only have gone a foot past the hole but catch the pin and glance off. I think it hurts more often than it helps.

Pull it, it's about the hole not the flag.

I pull it when I'm within a 20-25'. I've had a couple instances where I've left it in and it hits the pin a goes flying off the green.

Today was my fifth round with my new T300 irons. I am use to having a little draw with my previous 716AP1s and these new clubs are just so straight with the R300 shafts. Is taking some getting use to. As we approached hole number 12 today, a par 4, I hit a 15 degree fairway inside the 100. Took out my wedge and proceeded to destroy the hole and took a triple on the hole. Very angry and ready to give up for the day. Next hole, par 4, hit a great drive and approach shot. I usually leave the pin in, said take the **** out, it does not matter, drained it for a birdie. Next hole, par three, pw about 11 feet from the hole, below it, drained it. Pin out again. Next hole, par 5, great drive, sit and wait, sit and wait, sit and wait, yeah, slow group, we caught them. Six iron to the green and stubbed it to 30 yards from the pin. Pitch it 10 feet past the hole. Had to putt down hill with left break. Pin out, third times charm. Three birds in a row. I only had two pars on the back side and shot a 40. All over the place with a total of four birdies for the round. Missed four very makeable birdies with the pin in. Maybe there is something to leaving the darn thing out. Either way it is a 50/50 shot, either it goes in or it does not. Seems you could shoot better than 80 with four birdies. Way too much going on in my already hyperactive head right now. Once those new clubs get all dialed in, look out birdies......think I will leave the pin out........tournament coming up soon...first day is on Veterans Day and finish on Tuesday......hope to be ready......

So I have been hesitant to join this thread until I formed an opinion. And I dit - I just changed it half-way through the season. I have always (when playing alone) left the flag in - wasn't counting anyway. This year I was excited to not have to remove the pin but in our group we had staunch opinions in both camps. So, it really depended on who putted first whether it was in or out. What we found was interesting:

- Pin in - faster and I feel easier to read a longer range put
- Pin in - we have had several short range chips and other putts (with speed) bounce off the pin and not go in
- Pin out - easier (for me) to read shorter putts

So, I have flipped flopped back and forth and am now a pin out (generally) kinda guy. Have not yet seen the birdie run that Chuck did however ….. but only my third round with the T100s!

Alright TT! I love to see this thread is still going. After nearly a season, I've come to my conclusion - the pin is coming OUT!
Unless I can't see the hole, our I'm putting down a double back diamond ski slope, I'm pulling that thing.
I've seen numerous putts hit the pin and bounce out, and I have yet to see the pin help anyone. (Just my observations)
Maybe it's my courses pins - they're metal and fairly firm with little taper at the bottom. But I've seen other putts clank thinner stick without dropping on other tracks too.

Either way I love that golf is adapting its rules, and I certainly don't judge pin in people, but after trying it out, it's not for me.

After a few months of leaving the pin in, I'm back to taking the flag out unless I can't see the hole which is rare at our club because they paint the top of the hole white every day.

I've bounced off that stick many more times than have I seeen the ball fall in. I'm pullimg it. I kind of doubt it'll speed things up much, usually causes another putt.

Decided to give it a season of play and observed my buddies tendencies/results. I've tried to keep an open mind to the possible benefits of the change. What I seem to feel most comfortable with is taking the pin out for almost everything inside 30 feet, the only exclusive leave it in situation has been on a quick downhiller. However, got a greenskeeper's revenge tourney coming up in OCT so that'll likely be a leave it in round!
