I have a Ventus Red TR 6S shaft in my driver with a length of 45.5 and looking to cut it down an inch to 44.5. Currently it is sitting at a D3 swing weight.

What do I need to look for when I cut it down? I do not want to change the shaft profile and flex much, though if it was going one way or another, it could go stiffer slightly if need be as I am borderline x-flex in terms of club head speed. I might even be tempted to try a D4/5 swing weight after cutting it.

If I get it cut from the but end an inch will it change the profile much, being as I think the red Ventus is ultra stiff in the grip handle area. I will be bringing in to get it done, but want all my ducks in a row when I talk to the club fitter and they chop off my pretty spendy shaft.

Not an expert, but cutting the butt 1" will not affect the shaft profile much. That's a pretty common adjustment and not too drastic a change. They are designed to allow that variation. You will need to add weight to the head if you want to keep the swing weight, but you might want to experiment. I had a Ventus Blue in my TS2 cut to 44 3/4" overall and we tried the original weight, the +2, and the +4 weight. For me the +4 worked best. I did not lose any distance, but did gain a little more control. Moved on to the AD XC at 45" overall last year to reduce spin but still like that Ventus as a backup.

Tipping the shaft end requires a certain amount of expertise to adjust the feel. Shortening the butt end will decrease the swing weight, so you'd need to add weight to get back to D3. Cutting the butt will ever so slightly stiffen the shaft. I wouldn't notice myself. Before cutting the shaft, you might want to choke down an inch to see the impact prior to surgery.
