  1. I’ve never been fitted before and had a question about how club and shaft fitting works. Are the shaft and clubhead fit as a pair?

For example, if I’m fit into a specific iron with a particular shaft, but later decide I want a different iron model, can I assume that the same shaft will still be a good fit? Or does the head design change how the shaft performs?

  2. It depends on where you go to what they can offer. A good fitting service, will fit you into a head off a mid shaft that they know what it does, and then once find a head that works, they'll then switch in different shafts to see which is best. This may then lead to tweaking the head again, but it depends on if the original head works for you still. This is the same whether it's Driver down to wedge even putter.

RE some people once fitted into a shaft, especially irons will stick to the same shaft through sets of heads as they know how it feels and works for them. From my experience it would have to be a drastic change, in swing/delivery to change the shaft.

    Hope that helps.

There are two main equipment variables for a fitting, the club head and shaft. For example, I was at TPI recently for a fitting and the Fit Crew fitter wanted to fit me into the new T series irons despite me informing him that I was waiting for the release of the new miz Pro Series early next year. None-the-less, the TPI fitter started with TT DG shafts with the T100 head, but eventually settled on the Project X LZ 6.5 that I am currently gaming in my 919 JPX Tours that was fitted by the local miz rep. I'm not sure if this is a coincidence for the same iron shaft or my swing profile fits the Project X LZ 6.5. It should be interesting with I go to the miz Foundry early next year to se if my shaft stays with the Project X LZ 6.5. However, as I also had a Vokey Wedge fitting, I was told to stay with the Project X LZ 6.5 shaft for the Vokey 46.10F and 50.122F based on the 7 iron T100 trackman flight numbers.

Are you looking to pull the iron shaft you would be fitted into for a future new set of irons? Personally, in the future if you want a different set of irons then you should be fitted for both the shaft and head irrespective of your previous fitting results. The golf shaft is considered to be the "engnine" of the golf club.

Titleist has 6 iron heads and literally hundreds of shaft option when including all the flex options. The fitter will whittle it down to the best performance for you. Assuming you aren’t at a retailer with a vested interest in moving an in stock set.

There is a good probability that the shaft will work well with a different head but no guarantee it will be optimal with a different head.
