  1. I started golf a year ago , and have not played in over 30 years. I am going to get fitted for clubs, instead of my good will clubs.

What kind of shafts should I be looking at ? 61 years old , 5'10" typical drive about 215.

Primarily, shafts under 110 g of weight for irons. A good fitter will find the right shaft and flex in metal, steel fiber, or graphite to match your swing. Especially with limited knowledge of the newest technology, you want to seek trained fitters like at a Titleist Thursday or a Premier fitting center. Guys like us well over 39 will not match up with any set off the rack at a retail outlet. The price per Titleist club is the same from a retailer or a custom set specified at a Titleist Thursday. That fitter can also recommend if you should start your set at 5 or 6 iron and consider hybrids. A boxed set of 3-P irons will likely have at least 2 irons you can't get enough speed to launch. Get fit, buy once, enjoy.
  3. The stock shaft line up is amazing...you should consider Diamana Blue as a starting point however Diamana Red is also excellent...they both come in a variety of weights. Good Luck!
  4. For irons, there is a variety of excellent stock shafts that will work great. Depending on what weight you want I very much enjoy the Projext X LZ...comes in a variety of flexes.

I recommend you pay no attention whatsoever to shafts until the fitter tells you what will work for you and your swing.
Easy to get stuck on ideas of what MIGHT work as opposed to what WILL work!

I'm almost 62. I've been playing golf for 47 years on and off (very little play between 1976-2006; I had two 3 year periods where I played no golf at all with the last drought between 2003-2006). I also played off the shelf clubs until 2007.

Like Don O and the others say, get fit not only for shaft type but also for set makeup. Also, as your swing improves, fitting needs change.

215 with a driver is most likely borderline A flex and regular. I still hover between Bassara A flex and regular on the driver. My driving distance now is between 230-240 with occasional around 260. I have been playing 12 or 13* loft with draw face since 2011.

One thing that has changed in the past year is the ability to hit a 3 wood. Since 2011, I had carried either a 19 or 21 fairway. I found that 42.5" is the ideal length for a 3 wood and about 16.5* loft. 60 gram regular with 14g hea

Also in the past 2 years I have gone from 60 gram shafts to 70 gram shafts on the hybrids. One consistent thing since 2006 is a 5 hybrid has been a "go to" club. I also did away with the 17 or 19 fairways because I can hit a 21 hybrid 200 yards now. My 25 hybrid goes 180 now. Although I can hit a 6 or 7 iron reasonably well, I fare much better with a 32 hybrid (have a Baffler 7H that I get about 160 with it).

Went from regular flex on the short irons to Project X Rifle 5.5 on the 8 iron. Wedges have always been DG Wedgeflex.

I also remember my dad telling me that the golf pro at his club recommended 4 and 7 woods for most seniors. Then 24 and 27 hybrids.
