The Major Tournament to Win

If you could choose to win one of Golf's four major championships (Men's Championships), which one would you choose to win and why?

As for me, there was a time when I used to favour the US Open over the other three, and only marginally over the Masters. Well, my thinking has shifted and I now think that the Masters would be the Major Tournament to win. It used to be that the US Open represented the sternest test of the four majors and in many respects it still is, but I don't believe that the event is a fair test anymore - or at least has not been as fair a test as it could have been or should have been.

I think that rather than focusing on the performance of Brookes Koepka and his rarely achieved back-to-back victories, the story became the USGA and its course set up approach (again, unfortunately). I understand their philosophy and their reasoning behind set up, but as many others in all different forums have chimed in, how many times can the USGA leadership say that they want a "mulligan" and try all over again regarding course set up?

In their desire to achieve a stern test, they pushed the envelope, yet again, and in doing so, crossed the line (again) and went from a stern, but fair test of golf to one that was bordering on ridiculous and unfair to its participants.

Just some thoughts, curious to read what others think about their favourite major (to win if you could)! :-)

It looks like I forgot to give my reason. Just like the fact it is played at Augusta every year. I just love the look of an old-time tree lined course with iconic holes.

    Interesting question Dino...

I know there is a love affair with the Masters and I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that it is played on a course that none of us will ever get to play. For me however, the one to win would be "The Open" particularly when it is played at the Old Course. That is after all the home of golf. I know when I played there back in 2011 it was a huge highlight of my golf career. It is truly hallowed ground. It is similar to the U.S. Open in that there can be a big difference in the way the course plays between morning and afternoon depending on when the storms inevitably blow through, but somehow the course itself never becomes the story. The weather is what it is, and those that play there know they had best be prepared for anything. Carnoustie is very interesting as it has the Barry Burn which winds it's way through the course, but the Old Course is still the classic and gets my vote.

For me it would be the Open. It is all about the history of the game.
Those UK links courses expose all aspects of ones game. A well rounded game is needed to compete at the Open when the weather is part of the equation. No gimmicks for the set up, just golf.

    Lethbridge,

The Open at St Andrews. Oldest course, home of golf and the oldest tournament. What more is there to say!
  7. The Masters is my choice. It's the most prestigious course

Plus the the lifetime excemption and champions dinner ,

the us open would be a close second due to the difficulty

Has to be the Masters. The tradition alone.
However just to throw another out there the US Amateur since most of us are amateurs.

I would also have to say the Masters.
