I had just received my Titleist Pro V1 golf balls with my lucky number 7 (grew up a Mickey Mantle fan) on them. This was the first round I was using that number 7 ball!
The par 3 17h hole has two tiers to it, the higher tier on the right hand side and the lower on the left. The green is very shallow, and short and left is water, and long is bunker. The pin was all the way on the left hand side of the green, just a few steps from the water. So there is no way you want to shoot straight for the pin.
One of my playing partners went before me and landed his ball on the ridge defining the two tiers just on the left side, and his ball trickled to the hole. There is a mound that is in the way of seeing the cup, and we thought he had made his, but if reappreared after the mound, signifying that is was just left of the hole.
My ball landed close to where his ball landed, mine landing a little softer and it rolled left as his did, but it did not reappear after the mound. So we knew it was either in the hole or stopped close to it. To my surprise and delight, when I got to the hole, there was, at the bottom of the cup, my lucky #7 Pro V1 golf ball, my very first hole-in-one.
