Hey everyone,
I just got back into the game this year after 15+ years of inconsistent and infrequent playing. I played a ton and was very committed in my middle and high school years but fell off the wagon once college started and suffered a shoulder injury.
I have always been a shameless Titleist fan (nerd), and now that I am back in the game, I am geeking out over every generation of players type forged MB/CB iron that Titleist has made since my peak high school days in 2003/2004 (690.MB/CB) to the current 620 MB/CB (I am excluding hollow body and higher tech models from this such as the AP and T series, as they are a very different type of iron).
Upon my serious re-entry into golf, I put together a 2003-2006ish era Titleist bag to game with for a while, as I wanted to re-enter close to where I left off with equipment back in the day.
905T & 983K Drivers
904F & 983F 3 woods
735CM chrome irons
200 Series Vokeys
Scotty Studio Stainless 2.5
(I’ll delve into the modern equipment soon enough).
That all said, I want to pick up at least one more forged set, and have found plenty of fragmented information comparing the different models over the years but haven’t found too much comparing all of the models I am interested in.
I am really enjoying the 735CM’s right now, and may pick up a set of 690.MB’s, but am very interested in learning more about the 710, 712, 714, 716, 718 and 620 models, and want to narrow down a full MB or blended MB/CB set at some point.
Anyone that wants to geek out on this, please throw in your 2 cents.
Models I am interested in comparing:
690.MB/.CB (2003)
735CM (2005)
710 MB/CB (2009)
712 MB/CB (2011)
714 MB/CB (2013)
716 MB/CB (2015)
718 MB/CB (2017)
620 MB/CB (2019)
Notes:
690.MB – Somehow I am seeing a lot of feedback claiming this may have the biggest head size among the MB’s, and consequently, is the most “forgiving” of the lot?
735CM – I am playing this set right now and loving them, though I wish the 7 iron was a blade instead of a CB, and the cavity irons somehow don’t feel quite as SOLID as some of the other models I have tested on this list.
