  1. First of all, I know the best answer to my question is "Go to a fitting"; that said...

Last spring, I decided it was time to upgrade my irons for the first time in over a decade, so I went to a Titleist fitting and was fit* into 718 AP1s (*to be honest, it was not a great fitting experience -- the guy was kind of a jerk, and he was busy fitting 3-4 of us all at the same time, so he was a little distracted). I never thought of myself as someone who needed "game improvement" irons but, based on all the numbers and what the fitter was telling me, the AP1s were the club for me.

So I got the AP1s, and they've been fine -- at least, definitely an upgrade over my decade-old cavity backs from a technology standpoint (i.e., the ball seems to spring off the face). However, the more I play with them the less satisfied I've become. My main issue is the "issue" with most game improvement irons: the club head, especially the sole, is very large. I don't feel like I generate as much club head speed as I should/used to, and my mishits with the AP1s are chunky, like the club gets caught in the turf.

I've had it in my mind that getting the T200s would fix the issues I have with the AP1s, but I guess I just want some reassurance/guidance from the TT community that my reasons for considering the switch (more compact club head, thinner sole, more speed) are good reasons, and that I'm on the right track in thinking the T200s might be better. (NOTE: I have had the opportunity to hit a T200 7-iron about 10 times in my local golf shop, and I liked the look and feel of them, but not sure I can justify a second iron set purchase in less than a year based on 10 hits.)

Sorry, I ramble. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

In order to avoid buyer's remorse twice, wait until you can find an outdoor facility and schedule an hour with a pro or fitter certified as a Titleist specialist. Likely you had the best distance with the AP1 but control and feel are just as important. With that much dedicated time, you can get more than 10 swings on real turf interaction and discuss what is working and if not, why.

Taylor, sorry your last fitting experience didn't go well. Doesn't sound like the usual Titleist fitting. Even the Titleist Thursdays are one-on-one fittings where you get at least 45 minutes to really dial in. I totally get what you are saying about a desire for a narrow sole. I ended up going to the T-MB for that very reason. The internal weighting gives me help with loft and forgiveness but they look and interact with the ground like blades. Too bad they dropped them from the full set line up. I think the T200 will be much like the T300 for sole width. You may want to focus on the T100S with the right shaft. It won't be quite as forgiving on miss-hits but should give you the feel you are for. Still some good trade-in value on AP1's so that will help. Good luck.

Taylor H@ I was a long time AP2 player and finally switched to the T200. The Clubhead and sole is similar to the AP2 or T100 irons and not like the AP1 or T300. They are very forgiving in my opinion and have a forged face which gives a nice feedback. Go to your trusted golfshop and test a set of T200.

Anyone having problems with the T200 face caving in, I caved in a couple of my irons
