Try the new 816 Hybrids, H1 since that model is easier to hit out of the rough...

While I carry a 21 and 24 degree hybrid I carry a 27degree hybrid just for that reason. I found 27 degree is easier to get it out of the rough and still get some distance

If I try to muscle the hybrids out of the rough I have problems. I carry two: one is 915h2 17.25 and the other an 816h1 21. The 21* really flies out of the rough if I treat it as an iron and swing smoothly. The 915 have the Black Rogue shaft and the 816 has the Tour Motore Speeder shaft. At the age of 70 I still hit stiff shafts and need my hybrids and it all depends on how deep the rough is. Sometimes I just have to pull out an iron and hope to advance it to where I can get close with a wedge and make par and take my medicine.

I'm a 6.5 and I have a 915 19 degree that I hit out of the rough. With a fluffy lie I just swing normal, and I'm a picker. With it in some deeper rough I typically drive down into the ball but almost catch it like I'm blading it. It's a more steep swing that's a bit choppy but it's worked well for me.

I'm a shortish hitting mid handicapper and really rely on my hybrids!! Got a 915Hd 17.5 and 816H2 21. The 816 for me works wonders from the rough as long as i keep my swing smooth and don't try to smash it. A 24 or 25 degree hybrid wouldn't go a miss in my bag for balls buried in the rough.

Lower lofted hybrids out of deep rough can be a tough shot. If the rough is super deep, best option is to wedge it out.
But if you can get some club face on the ball then choke slightly down on grip and hit more of a punch shot. Weight slightly left and shaft leaning left. Not much wrist hinge and swing more upright and only 3/4.

I carry the 19*, 21*, and the 24*. It's like cheating -- these clubs are that easy to hit. Remember not to sweep the ball with the hybrid, but hit down on it playing the ball slightly forward in your stance. You'll be amazed the flight difference.

just played my first round with 816 H1 21 degrees hybrid with diamanté red stiff shaft. unreal difference. was fitted at titleist Thursdsy event at galloping hills course in nj by Jim beadle. much more solid feel than png I previously used and getting more distance. highly recommend spending some time getting fit

I got the recommendation to move the ball back to the same position as an 8 or 9 iron. That solved it for me and now - unless Teed up - that's the position I use for most hybrid shot. (8 handicap)

Move the ball back in your stance a little bit and hit down on it.

Odds are you're trying sweep it as opposed to hitting down on it like an iron. Generally that's where we all get into trouble with our hybrids. Once you try the "hitting it like an iron" approach it will get a lot easier to hit your hybrid whether in the rough or the fairway. Hope this helps happy golfing.

Perhaps you could offer a little more information? What loft hybrid is causing issues? Might be too low. Are we talking about deep rough, or the first or second cut?

Finally, what are your misses in these situations? As a 2, I suspect you just aren't getting the results you seek rather than drastic mishits - is that the case?

If you are having trouble with woods/hybrids out of the rough, try this: Put the ball in the front of the stance, and have around 90% of your weight on your front foot. Keep the weight mostly on your front foot throughout the swing, and hit way down on the ball. It's going to come out low but it doesn't have any spin so it rolls a mile.

Keep your ball in the short grass.

Hybrids will work well with in lite to moderate lies. For a buried lie you will have to take your medicine (think US Open) and wedge it out. My experience has been my Titleist 913 21 deg hybrid works much better than my 816 H1 23 deg hybrid. The former has a more rounded face and the latter has a flatter sole plate. The former also seems to have a smaller club face which I believe contributes to getting the club through the rough. Maybe you can pick up a used 913 H and see for yourself.

I use to carry a 19 deg. I actually took it out of the bag because I was more consistent from fairway or rough with a 3 iron. But I did find that playing my hybrid, toward the front of my stance, and struck like an iron, would usually pull a hair but I could get it up and out.
