Stewart Cink will use a different ball based on conditions. Most pros don’t. They can adjust their launch conditions so much better than we can.

In your case, the V actually has a more penetrating flight than the X. Since 2017, the X launches higher with a little more spin than the V. Alternatives in place of the V would be Left Dash X or AVX.

I prefer to change the shots, not the ball. That's definitely what tour players do. I can move the ball back a bit and level the shoulders with the driver and hit a lower shot that runs out more. I still need spin on short shots and the feel on putts is so different that I just can't play my short game consistently if I switch balls.

I play the Prov1 because of windy conditions. From my experience the distance gain from the Prov1x was very minimal about 6 yds avg. Almost identical driver distance on trackman, but a more penetrating ball flight descending at a shallower angle & more roll with the ProV1. I like the softer putter feel, but you lose some spin (not drastic as some lead you to believe) on the short game. On YouTube there are a lot of guys hitting both on monitors with small differences. IMHO you cant go wrong with either, they are very similar.

I do the same thing as Dale and change shots. If I switch to the ProV1x my irons balloon up and in the wind it hurts me even more. The ProV1 gives me the most consistent performance in all conditions.

Stick with the same ball in all conditions to maintain consistency. I play in windy conditions along the coast most of the time. Have learned to adjust my ball position to hit the ball lower. As we say jokingly, hit it under the wind.

I'm not good enough to "change shots" on demand. I have not hit the ProV1x so that might be worth try.

Characteristics of different balls are going to be so close that gains will be fairly marginal in my experience, and the club delivery will override those characteristics in every case anyway. Practicing and dialing in 1/2 & 3/4 flighted shots when it’s really windy will have a much more positive impact on your score.

I never change ball for condition. Not that I am all that good, but golf is about calculating odds and executing the best shot for the situation. Even if it is small differences, changing the ball changes the one piece of equipement that you use for every shot. The only way I would change would be if I were struggling and searching for a spark of some sort.
