The Albatross
By Jason L On 6 August 2010
It was just another afternoon round of golf with a couple of my high school buddies. One of my friends and I have been playing together regularly since we were 14 while my other friend is just now picking up the game.
Together, we've seen some pretty impressive shots from one another and while there's no other person I want to see play good than him, he's also the one I love to beat the most. Nearly 2 years ago he made his first ace with me playing right along beside him and it's a frequent topic of conversation seeing as how I have yet to match him on that.
Welcome to August 5, 2010 and I now have something I can dangle over his head. We got to the par 5 8th and I was fresh off a 3 jack so I teed up the Pro V1x #3 and smashed it about 322 yards leaving myself a 5 iron to a back pin off an uphill lie. I hit it perfectly and it landed on the front portion of the green just over the sandtrap that was guarding. I thought with the given lie, it had landed soft, but then it reappeared and was funneling straight to the hole. We all watched as it crept to the hole and then it vanished. All I could do was yell and throw my arms up in a Kevin Costner as Roy McAvoy type manner.
To my disbelief, I picked the ball up out of the hole, wrote the score down on the card, and realized I didn't even know what to signify the number with on the card!
It was a truly awesome moment that I'll never forget and was happy to share it with 2 of my closest friends.
