What Really Got Me Into Golf
By Tommy B On 21 June 2018
I had been playing for almost six months, age 13, with a handicap of about 20 or so. I was playing at my local par 3 course: The Fairgrounds GC. I walked up to the eleventh hole, a 105-yard par 3 with a front hole position (bunker to the left with the wind blowing strongly in my face). I decided to hit a knockdown pitching wedge. The strike felt perfect, and it landed just before the hole. I was just excited to get it within five feet of the hole, but then I realized it was slowly rolling toward the hole. I thought there was a tiny chance it would go in. When it disappeared, I threw my club in the air, and my dad and I celebrated. I walked up, took a few pictures of the ball that now sits on my shelf with HIO (hole-in-one) on it as well as the date. My dad told everyone, and that was the shot that really got me into this amazing sport, and I hope to get on my high school team next year.
