I have been golfing with my partner, Doug for over 13 years, each of us logging over 100 rounds per year. Coming into this year, we had never witnessed an ace together. I had my first ace in 2003 playing in a spring scramble at our club at the 8th hole. A good friend was in the group two holes behind me and he also aced the same hole, depriving me of a skin even with my hole in one.
Eight weeks ago, Doug was playing with another group at an event at our club and aced the 16th hole for his first hole in one. Three weeks later while playing in our Thursday mens league, Doug recorded his second ace on hole 8, giving me a chance to witness this great shot. Three weeks later on a Tuesday event, I watched him hit the identical shot on the 8th and recorded his 3rd ace in 6 weeks.
Last night, three weeks after Doug's last ace, we approached the 8th and Doug insisted that i might want to do something to help the team. i lofted my 6 iron on the 174 yard 8th directly at the pin. It appeared to stop rolling just short of the cup, and i reached down to get my tee when Doug said, "it's still moving." I looked up in time to see it drop in the hole. This one won us a skin in our league and hopefully it's my turn again in three weeks.
