Trifecta of Firsts
By Anthony H On 15 September 2017
I had a trifecta of firsts yesterday as I shot my best round ever 69 (-2), I won my first high school invitational, and I got a hole-in-one on my 15th hole to move to -2 for the round. The hole-in-one was at Riverdale Knolls golf course (Mountain Ridge H.S. Invitational) on the 8th hole (my 15th hole of the round), from the blue tees (212 yards) and I hit a 4 hybrid. I hit the ball pure right at the flag, but when I walked up to the green I didn't see my ball. I started to walk to the back of the green to see if it went over when my competitor walked up to the hole and said you are not going to believe it but your ball is in the hole. I fell to the ground and actually started to cry and shake as I was already playing the best round of my life with 14 pars in a row and after the ace I was sitting -2 with three holes to play. I was overwhelmed because it was my first hole-in-one, but I was also trying to win my first high school golf tournament. Three other groups in the tournament started to clap (group in front of me, behind me and walking by the green) and then the entire tournament of players spread across the golf course started clapping and cheer. It was a incredibly nice gesture that made me feel so good. My coach heard a rumor that I was shooting the round of my life (I am a 7.4 handicap) and I just made a hole-in-one to go under par late in the tournament. He zipped over in his cart to support me and keep me calm for the rest of the round. The last three holes I finished par, par and par for a 69, two shots under par thanks to my eagle hole-in-one. 17 pars and a hole-in-one is what it took to win my first high school golf tournament.
