Titleist Fitting and my third Hole in One
By Marc H On 21 June 2018
I just went to a Titleist ball and club fitting at Raspberry Falls Golf and Hunt Club. I was complaining that I didn't hit the ball high enough nor with enough spin to stop it on the green. What did they suggest? 1) The ball fitters recommended the ProV1x, instead of the ProV1 which I had been playing. Said the X would go higher and spin more. Trackman proved this correct. 2) They also said my wedges were worn out. My SM5's were a couple of years old. Tried out brand new SM7's and put twice as much spin on the ball. 3) The club fitter then said get some lighter shafts (AMT red) in AP3 irons and try to hit a cut. The shaft would get the ball higher, and the cut would get it higher and spin more. Trackman again quantitatively verified this. Now to the course: First time out, hit the flag with a gap wedge. Second time out, on three consecutive holes, hole 4) scored a birdie on a par 5 after going past the green in two shots (more spin gets the ball up in the air for more distance for me), hole 5) hole in one par 3 with a 9 iron, and hole 6) eagle with a lob wedge. 5 under in three holes!
