The one you never get to see! Lol

Having witnessed 4 of my friends make aces over the past 30 years I was able to see the ball go in the hole every time and be a part of that explosion of joy that happens on the tee box. Yesterday afternoon we were playing into the setting sun as the 4 of us teed up on the 17th hole at 174 yards. As the pin was back left I only caught a glimpse of the first player who hit the front right of the green. I hit a very nice shot at the flag but couldn't see a thing. As we reached the green and seeing only 1 ball I grabbed my putter and a wedge and walked behind the green to begin searching. There was about 10 yards of rough and then a hazard. Since the hazard would have meant I hit my 5 iron over 200 yards (which I can't do), I was sure it wasn't in there. By now the other 2 players had chipped on to the green and I decided it was worth a look so I walked to the hole (how many countless times have we all done that over the years and you never see the ball in the cup). Well, after 32 years of playing this great game I couldn't believe what I saw, there it was in the cup. I dropped my clubs and raised my arms in celebration as my friends cheered me on. What an incredible day and well worth the wait for my first one!! After the round it only cost me 6 martinis in the bar. Good friends!!... on a side note my friends at Titleist, I thought I'd mention how I switched to the new AVX back in October when a friend of mine brought some back from a tournament he was playing in Florida. The first time I put the ball in play I was sold and for the last 7 months I've loved it. I can honestly say I'm 10+ yards further than the Pro V1 with just about everything in the bag. Now the funny part. Having just lost the new AVX I had put into play starting the back nine on the previous hole, and with only two holes left, I reached into my bag and pulled out a Pro V1 (this year's) that had seen plenty of holes already but was still in good shape. That was the lucky ball and the one in the trophy which was presented to me by the course. A very classy touch from the folks at Geneva National Resort in Lake Geneva, WI. Three world class courses designed by Palmer, Player and Trevino. The trophy tells the story, thanks for letting me share mine. Sincerely, Francis McKenney - Algonquin, IL.
