On Thanksgiving day 2017, my friend and golf buddy Dennis "Skinny" Pritchett holed his first ace. I'm not sure how long Skinny has been golfing. I've only been golfing for about 18 months and Skinny is at the local muni every time i go. He takes pride in the course, he mows the tee boxes in the morning and keeps the beer cooler company the rest of the day. In the group was the man of the story, Skinny, Shay, and myself, Sean. The weather was amazing for the time of year. Skinny and Shay are having a pretty solid through 11. We reach the 12th, an uphill par 3. On this day the whites are past 180 yards from the green. Pin up front, left of center. Skinny takes the honors and hits a high fade (probably driver, he is an old ***) towards the hole. No one in the group can see the ball down. Shay hits a high draw (5 wood) that appears to be tracking towards then pen as well, but again, we can not see the ball down. I step up and hit the best looking of the 3 shots, obviously, a high draw (7 iron... easy) that is also tracking towards the hole, again, we cant see it down. As we approach the green there are 2 balls spotted on the green, just short of the pin, one is missing. We had a fear that Skinny ran off the back so he drives around back. I step on the green and Skinny asks me to look into the hole and there it was. I told Skinny a Pro V1 was in the hole and he almost fell out with joy for his first hole in one. Skinny went on to choke on the last 2 holes, scoring a bogey on each and finishing the round with a disappointing 71. Shay quietly made eagle putts from off the greens to score a surprising career best 69! I was the glue that held the group together with an 82. It was a good Thanksgiving day that none of us will ever forget. Congrats Skinny! Love you man!
