"Hit the Truck, Hit the Truck"

On an early Saturday morning round, we arrived at the 15th tee at Renaissance, which is the longest par-3 on the course. The tees weren’t quite all the way back but the hole was scoped at 226 yards. When we arrived, two greens keepers had parked their maintenance truck about 20 yards in front of the green and were hand watering the fairway. They kept watering, with a watchful eye on us at the tee. I hit a 3-wood pretty high and straight, and it was flying right towards the truck, and towards the pin. Like we were at the range, one of my buddies, and one of my opponents that morning, yelled “Hit the truck! Hit the truck!” Fortunately, it carried the truck and bounced a few times and rolled at the pin. We saw it disappear but knew for sure when the two maintenance guys throw up their arms and celebrated with us. It was only my second, and two of my four that morning had seen my first one, about twenty years ago in a trip to the RTJ Alabama Golf Trail. The other member of the foursome was the club's first member. A great day! Though I haven’t seen the bar bill yet…
