I’ve been golfing since I was in my early teens and am now 57 so it’s been a while since I really thought of holing one. I don’t get as many rounds in as I would like, and Chicago summer doesn’t last too long so when I got a text from an old friend to get out last Saturday? I jumped at the chance. It turns out that I was filling the foursome with my friends Dad who is 93, and another former colleague. I actually said to myself that morning that I wanted to concentrate on parring all the par threes today. We were playing the Prairie Course at Countryside in Mundelein IL, which I had never seen prior. There are three oar threes on the front and I did par all three. We got to hole number 15 and my friend Rick went up on the tee box and looked through his rangefinder and announced “139 to the pin”, I said “I have that shot”...I pulled my 9 iron out, teed it up just off the turf and launched one toward the green. The ball drew slightly toward the pin, landed about eight feet short of the cup, bounced into the air and landed in the cup! I said “that might be in, I don’t see the ball” my cart partner Carter agreed, “oh, I think it’s in man, I didn’t see a bounce”.
We go down to the green, and sure enough, the ball was in the cup.
What a thrill, I cannot wait to go for another. Herb, the 93 year old has 6!
Something to shoot for...
