My First Hole in One
By Tommy Boy On 4 November 2013
It happened on the 11th hole in the 4th round of Squirrel Run's version of the Ryder Cup. I was having a really bad round I felt like I couldn't hit water if I fell out of a boat. So on the previous hole I had played a draw and hit it to about 5 feet and won the hole. On the next hole 11 I figured I'd hit another draw and the sun was coming down behind the hole and was just above the tree line and I hit the shot and as I swung out to the right for the draw the tee launched back up and hit me right in the eye ball so I fell off and covered my eye and never saw where my shot went. I was the first one to hit and we could not see the ball on the green so I asked my three playing partners they Saw it and none of them had seen it. I explained I was hitting a draw and that it was probably from the flag to the left rough off the greens well we looked for almost 5 minutes being that it was the fault in New England there were quite a bit of leaves on the ground and as I was getting ready to give up and can see the match as my opponent had me Dormie one of the women playing in their match alongside of us had said has anyone checked the hole and my reaction was I wouldn't bother I don't think it's there she checked anyways and said it's in the hole, now I am one of the younger and newer members to this club as well as the game of golf have only been playing since May 2012 and having such a bad day getting my butt kicked in this matchplay I said please don't mess with me I can't take that... She laughed and said no it's really in the hole there was a ball mark about 5 feet past the whole so it spun it self back in when I realized she wasn't lying I raised my arms in excitement and that's when about three holes around us kind of erupted in hoots and hollers. And to top it all off because the event we were playing in had a hole-in-one prize which stated if anyone got a hole-in-one all the other players had to give up five dollars to the person who hit the hole-in-one so I got about $210 and my first hole-in-one about a year and a half to the day that I started golfing.
