I've been playing golf for approximately 18 years. I've played with some really good players and have seen some amazing golf shots. Prior to August 16th, 2018 I had never witnessed a hole in one, much less accomplished that feat. My first hole in one occurred during a Men's Night league that occurs every Thursday during the golf season. It had an almost unbelievable set up prior to the shot being struck. Two holes prior I had made birdie on arguably the toughest par 4 on the front nine at my club. So I held "tee box honors" the next hole. I proceeded to make par on the next hole and thus continued to "hold" the tee box. Upon completion of our 5th hole, my group of 5 (yes, 5 players) stepped to the 6th tee box. A par 3 that plays anywhere from 117 - 134 yards depending on the pin location. This day the pin was located up front near a slope that runs down to the front of the green. Many a shot spins off the green in this location, especially since the greens at my club are fairly soft year round. My buddy James (to my surprise and confusion) hopped in his golf cart and proceeded to drive down towards the green before anyone had hit. The flagstick was slightly crooked and leaning towards the right just a bit, as if a player or group ahead of us had not placed the flagstick in the hole appropriately. James had driven down to the green to fix the flag ahead of our tee shots. Upon his return to the tee area, I was reminded that it was still my box and so I set up to hit my ball. I didn't measure the shot precisely as I had overheard someone mention the yardage at around 121 yards, so I just grabbed my PW hoping to place the ball in the general vicinity of the flag for a birdie chance. I swung, made solid contact with the ball and watched it fly on a good line, tracking towards the flagstick. At first glance, it didn't seem as if the shot had enough distance to reach the green. I watched, and watched, and then suddenly the ball struck very very close to the cup and bounced forward. I heard in the midst of the ball hitting the green, one of my buddies say "Go in!" as the ball bounced, then spun, and then suddenly trickled into the hole from behind the flag! My group of friends went nuts as the ball disappeared and I must've had a minor case of shock as it took a second for what had happened to register in my brain. It was unbelievable, the scenario that had preceded the shot going in seemed like something out of a movie. Needless to say, the ball was saved (Titleist NXT Tour), drinks were paid for, and the memory etched into my brain forever.
