my 1st ace of two....
By mbuechner On 19 February 2016
My first hole-in-one was at Longaberger Golf Club, East/central Ohio, the first year they opened. My ace was on the 5th hole, 188 yds with a six-iron. I was playing in a foursome and had six witnesses. How you ask, well I was on the box and between the tee and green is a cart path. Approaching on the path was a two man greenscrew. They stopped to watch my tee ball. I hit it well, sorta low, saw it bearing down on the pin and then 'bing' we all heard it hit the stick. Because of the growth in front of the green I could not see where the ball went, but, everyone else said 'it went in, it went in!!!! As I approached the green i did not see my ball and thought 'damn it rolled off into the junk. I slowly and quietly 'creeped' up to the cup to take a peek and there it was!!!! Right in the bottom of the hole!!!! My ace was the third or fourth at the course and the 1st one on hole #5. Yeah, I was excited as it only took me 40 some years to get it. The only bad news to the event was......when our group was on the back nine we saw the 'ranger' and told him of the news. He asked what ball I was playing and I said Titleist and he told me to tell the club pro I was using a Maxfli - i believe- because they would send me 'all kind of stuff.' I couldn't believe it - Golf is a gentleman's and a honest game - and I was told to lie just to get stuff. wow!!! Anyway, I told the pro I was using a Titleist and the only thing I received or way I was recognised was by putting my name on a name plate and attaching it to a Longaberger basket hanging in the pro shop. Oh well, My grandad had two aces in his day and received two trophies (a number 1 with a hole in it, he gave me one of his....as of this post I have recorded one more ace. Sorry grandpa, were tied...
