June 2, 2008, was any other hot, muggy day in Daytona Beach, FL, where my family owns a timeshare. Our foursome consisted of me, my dad, my brother, and a family friend. We were playing the Daytona Beach Golf Club's South Course (a Donald Ross design), and honestly, the first eight holes were a grind. When we got to the 9th hole (a Par 3), I had honors on the tee. The hole was playing 140 yards that day, and the pin was tucked in the back left portion of the green. I pulled an 8 iron and simply aimed toward the middle of the green so I would have a 10-15 foot putt if I struck it well. I remember thinking to myself as the ball left the club face, "oh man, definitely didn't mean to hit a draw!" I saw the ball hit the surface, and stooped down to clear the broken tee. My brother told me I needed to be watching the ball. As I looked back up, it was tracking directly toward the pin....then it disappeared! Needless to say, I don't recall anything else about the round....but I didn't need to....I had just scored my first hole-in-one!
