I was +2 for the round, a quick morning nine that we started on the back. My buddy Rich and I were on our way to 15, a tough little par 3, when I said,"man I need a couple birds to finish off!" The hole read 177 to the front and 184 to the pin with a slight breeze back into my face. I was a little torn between a 4 or 5 and figured with the temp. being mid 50s, the ball may get held back a bit. From the tee It's a fairly intimidating little shot. The tee is up on a mound and the green sits well below maybe some 10 to 30 ft, and there is a giant mound on both sides sandwiching in a spit off a green maybe 25ft wide by 35 deep. There are two bunkers, both short, left and right, which adds to the fun. So 4-Iron in hand, I lined up to the ball, made great contact and put the ball on a beautiful line. I knew as soon as I saw the flight, if it was the right distance it would be good. The ball landed about five paces past the left bunker, just on the fringe, and started tracking toward a back left pin placement. My buddy Rich exclaimed," there's one of those birdie putts you wanted!" To which I replied, " ooooooh don't go in!!" Then the ball disappeared. It was awesome! I think Rich was more excited than I was for a minute. He threw his club down, and ran to a nearby hole where a groundskeeper was fertilizing the green to see if he saw. He didn't see it, but cruised up to the hole before we did to take a peek in the hole, and confirmed with a fist pump and a thumbs up. I don't think it really sunk in til I walked up and saw my Titleist 1 staring up at me. When we arrived back at the clubhouse I was registered at the course and was given a free round of golf. They took my info. and said they would put it in the newspaper. I ended up that 9 with a +1 37 and I am so happy that my 1st one was on a day that I felt like I was really playing well. Absolutely worth the price of admission today!
