Hole-in-One_Nick Lico

Michigan is not the friendliest state for golfing in late October and yesterday (10/29/17) was proof. The weather forecast was for 48 degrees and we don't believe it came within five degrees of that expectation. It was overcast and windy, but my golf buddy, Tony, and I decided to brave the elements for what will likely be the last round of the year. As we pulled into The Orchards' parking lot, we ran into a member and someone we've become friends with, Richard, and asked him to join us. On the 12th hole, a 148-yard par three, I went first and hit what I figured would be a good shot. Tony pulled his tee shot left and Richard had a nice shot that drew toward the hole. The pin location (on a lower tier and on the left side of the green) does not allow golfers to see how the tee shots wind up. When we drove to the green, we only saw one ball on the green, so I assumed I'd gone long. Not seeing a ball past the green, I began looking short of it. That's when Richard said, "Have you looked in the cup?" To my amazement, there it was: my first hole-in-one after 30+ years of playing. I came close a few times this year, including on the same hole, and if this truly was my last round of the year, it will forever be memorable.
