My wife, two friends and I were playing in the inaugural memorial event for a late, long-standing member of our club. (Pinecrest C C , Brookville PA). At hole no. 3, playing to 147 yards, slightly downhill, I chose a 7-iron for my shot. I hit my Pro-V1 squarely with a very slight fade. The all flew perfectly to about five feet short of the green, bounced once, then rolled across the green. My old (72) eyes thought I saw the ball roll very close to the back center flag and into the sand bunker behind the green. My wife said "It went in !!"
I said "No, it rolled past and into the bunker". She said "I saw it go in !" (She's somewhat younger and has much better eyesight). Our two companions said they weren't sure, but thought it may have gone in. When we got to the green, the first place I looked was in the trap. No Ball ! Apprehensively, I approached the hole. Sure enough, there was my Pro-V1, snuggled against the flagstick at the bottom of the hole! Needless to say, there were high-fives all around (and a kiss from my wife! How much better can it get?).
After the round, and congratulations from fellow competitors of course, we learned that the late member whom we were memorializing had never scored a hole-in-one in his many rounds of golf. It was thought quite fitting that one would be scored at his inaugural memorial event.
