First Ace

I have been golfing since my teenage years and have always played a Titleist golf ball. I’m 55 years old and have been searching for that elusive first Ace for a long time. Grew up in Mattapoisett and always knew folks who worked for Titleist and my dad, the late Mike Demakis was a Titleist golfer through and through- clubs, balls, Footjoy shoes. He was a long time member of the Country Club of New Bedford. He died in 1984 when I was 19 at the young age of 43. He was my inspiration and his death and love of the game and sportsmanship motivated me to pursue golf more seriously as an adult. I’m a 5 handicap and just recently had left hip surgery in March and have struggled to get back to swinging the club. Sunday May 19, 2019, it finally happened in a tournament at Country Club of New Bedford- 140 yard par 3, 7th hole. Struck a 6 hybrid pure and the ball had eyes for the cup and according to a witness coming down the 12th fairway, my lucky #9 ProV1X took one hop and rolled in. Pin was just north of left center. I almost started crying I couldn’t believe I’d finally gotten an Ace. Then to learn afterwards from my uncle Marc Goddu who was also an avid golfer and member of CCNB that it was the SAME hole my father had gotten his FIRST Ace on..... I became teary-eyed. My dad was watching over me and I will never forget this day, ever. That’s my story....
