Family Hole in One
By Dave W On 22 July 2018
My mother loved playing at Shadowbrook GC in Tunkhannock, PA. When she was counting down her final days she expressed a wish to be cremated. We discussed what to do with her ashes and one of the possible locations she liked was the ladies tee on number 16 at Shadowbrook. Number 16 is the signature hole at that course, a 180 yard ( from the men's), 128 yard ( ladies) steep downhill par 3 over a pond with lovely stands of decorative trees and flowers near the green and rolling Endless Mountains in the distance. After her funeral I sprinkled some of her ashes around the ladies tee box on number 16.
Two years later, on August 17, 2014 at around 11 am I hit a Titleist Pro V1 with my TM 7 wood from the men's tee over the ladies tee and over the pond to just onto the green of number 16 and it ran straight and true into the hole for my first ( and only, so far ) Ace. In attendance were my playing partners Paul and Don Lane and my Brother Frank..... And my Mom Edie....
After the round we went to the 19th hole bar, Bogies. It was just before noon and besides my playing partners there were only two other golfers, one of whom declined my offer of a drink and bought me one instead ! I managed to spend only 10 bucks for 4 draft beers and a 5 dollar tip to the barmaid ! I was also a member of the hole in one club and received $547.00 for my ace.
