Day of 1st's Ends with a Hole-In-One
By BJehlicka On 15 August 2016
It was the day of the annual work golf outing and we were set to play the newly opened Minot Country Club. I had never played this course before and had just acquired a new Titleist driver that I would be using that day. The format was a four person scramble tournament and our team was tearing it up from the start on hole 8. We ended up birdying our first couple holes which eventually lead to 5 birdies, one eagle, and two pars on the first 8 holes. We had been playing the best round of golf I have ever taken part in. We had just chipped in the eagle on hole 6 and began to tee off on hole 7. Hole 7 is a 220 yard par 3. I pulled out my Titleist 909 driver and decided on a three quarter swing. My drive was headed left of the flag and we could see it roll onto the left side of the green where it disappeared over the hill of the green. On the tee box we did not think that I had just hit a hole-in-one. We had then noticed the group in front of us on the next tee box start waving their arms like they were cheering. We joked on the tee box that maybe one of us got an ace. One of the members in our group then got a call. One of the guys on the next tee box asked who had just made the last shot. He said he saw the ball hit the pin and go into the hole. I was shocked in disbelief that I had just hit my first hole-in-one! Not only was this my first round of golf at the course, my first round with my new driver, my first hole-in-one, but this was the first hole-in-one at the new course! I got quite the reception when we got back to the club house where over a hundred of my coworkers congratulated me. We also ended up winning the scramble with a 9 under score. Good news for my pocket book that this was a dry event and I didn't have to buy a round of drinks for a hundred people!
