A Break in the Rain
By Keith W On 21 June 2018
I played in an threesome in an early morning round before the Kentucky Derby. The hourly forecast was bleak and during the warm up I got soaked. It didn’t look good for our 18 hole round to be. A sudden break in the rain and we teed off at 810. The first five holes we routein although I picked up a couple bogeys. I came to the sixth hole, a 165yd par 3 guarded by a stream short and a tree on the right side where the pin was hiding. I played a 7-iron because the greens had been firm up to this point. I purued my vintage 1984 Wilson Staff fluid fleel blade. The ball hit three feet in front of the pin and trickled closer before disappearing in the cup. Although it continued to sprinkle for the whole round it didn’t let go until we cleared the 18th and poured the rest of the day. It was a my big break in the rain in more ways than one.
