SM11 Upgrade

As I lose distance and swing speed, I have been adding more high lofted fairway woods to the bag. The latest addition necessitated a move away from my standard 52F-56S-60D configuration to a 54S-60M setup. These started out as Jet Black, but I stripped and paint filled them to be a bit unique. My son will add some stamping when I get back to SC!! As a long time Vokey user, I must say that each iteration represents and improvement … the innovation that us TT members have become accustomed to!

I’ve played 56.14F since SM7 and it’s always worked very well for me. However I’m toying with a 56D when I next change, but when something works as well as the F grind does for me it’s scary to move away!

Vokey confuses me, need help. K grind is supposedly ultimate bunker club but not offered in 54* which is listed as sand wedge. F grind is most played sand wedge on tour but listed as best for full shots. My online wedge fitting recommends D grind. I need a 54 sand wedge with some versatility.

I have 1 raw SM11 (50.08F), 1 jet black (54.12D), and a raw WedgeWorks / SM11 (58.08A+). The 50 and the 58 haven't developed the same patina. The 50 is spottier and less "rusty" and the 58 has a dark overall rust color to it that is much more uniform. I also have a 46.10F raw SM10 that is even darker and more uniformly rusty than the 58. The 54 still has most of its jet black finish, but I'd say from experience with this club and numerous other generations in jet black that I won't buy that finish again. I'll go with nickel if I want a non-raw option that doesn't give off as much glare, but I won't do the jet black because it does wear out and looks bad much more quickly than even the rusty raw wedges do.

We're full circle. SM11 42-50-55-60 and Bunkr 64 for wedges. Toss up between 58-04T and 60-08M. Driver-5W-9W-27H-7 iron. 10 club challenge: remove 64*.

I am planning on getting a complete new set of vokey wedges but Im really unsure about what lofts and grinds I should try. My PW is quite a strong loft at 43, and in my current wedges I have nothing until a 52 which leaves a huge problem for my gapping. Is it worth getting a 48, 52, 56, and 60? maybe instead just a 50, 54, and 58 which leaves another club for an additional wood in the top of my bag. If anyone has any insight on that I'd love to hear it! I am also not that knowledgable about different grinds and bounces so if anyone knows what might suit me (I have a relatively steep swing, my misses are slightly chunky, and I take quite big divots) please let me know!

This is my current. 42-50-55-60-64. It is a toss up between 58-04T and 60-08M. I rarely use the 64 (which has a 14.5 bounce). T grind has a steeper leading edge. The big thing with M Grind is full swing shots and actually better off hard lies. For open face shots, the T carries 2 yards farther.

This is my bag. D grind 1* strong is pretty versatile and that has been my weapon of choice since 2023. I carried K grind between 2017-2023 and found 12* bounce ideal. The limitation of K grind is the ability to do flop shots.

I've been using a 52-12F set to 50 since I went to 44-10F (42*) a year & a half ago. 10* bounce is just right because it works nicely for longer bunker shots and on turf. Before all of this, I played MB 8 iron, 48-10F (46*) and 54-14F set to 52* since 2021. I might add that, once I figured out the idiosyncrasies of 52-12F (I flattened the lie angle to match my 48-10F) in 2023 I switched. Also found out 44F swings better with a 35.5" club length and 2* strong; best shot is holing out from 50 yards with half swing pitch plus it is a go to for bump n run.

There's a local vendor in San Diego, Scripps Golf, that has a line of forged Callie style wedges. Their original SG1 58* wedge held its own vs a Wedgeworks V grind. However, comma, D grind is a much better wedge. The feel is pretty good on forged. I played the SG3 60/10 alongside my 58-12D.

I used a 58-12D (57*). I went to 56-12D (55*) because my LW is a toss up between 58-04T and 60-08M

Has anyone ever seen the vokey forged wedges in person?? I feel like spotting these rare creatures is a special occasion. Love to hear some thoughts or if anyone has played them and how they compare to standard vokeys over the years. Really wish I could get my hands on just one LOL!!

What forged Vokey’s are in this country were brought in by golfers with business in Japan. Vokey doesn’t see an advantage to forged wedges, and apparently most pros that use Vokey wedges on tour don’t either.
Titleist/Vokey has never made a comment that this will change. Prestige sells better in Japan., so it is more marketing than functionality there.

I have the 54-S, 58-M and the 58-K 6 degree. All were fit at the golf course by my Titleist fitter.

58-12K set to 57 would be a good 3 wedge setup 50-57-64.

Their build tolerances are too lax... Things can be almost 2 swing weights off.
I build my head/shaft/grip that way I know what is going in it and it's done right.
Especially with the "Vokey" shafts... They unofficially say it's S200, but it could be anything from S200-S400.
Tour Issue is better, but they're still not getting swing weights to the correct spec....

Yes, I can tell the difference in 1 swing weight... I proved it to the club fitter at the store when I brought him 2 of the same Vokeys and told him one is lighter, and has a softer flex, and it's swing weight was light... He didn't believe me. We checked it and one was almost 10g lighter... .S200 vs S400 and was D2.8 vs D4.3
