Travel Bag: soft or hard?

I haven't traveled with clubs in a long time, but I have an opportunity coming next month. In the past I used a simple canvas bag with my own improvisations - like lots of towels for padding and a homemade version of a "stiff arm" to protect the shafts.

I like my clubs much more these days :) and want better protection. I assume a hard case would provide better protection, but could be a challenge to fit into a rental car. Is it safe to travel with today's soft travel cases like the Titleist club glove travel cover?

I have soft travel case and a soft with a hard shell upper. Depending on how you pack your clubs matters, I shipped my clubs on one trip to California and on the first hole the ball went 50 yards and the driver head went 70 yards. So now I remove the heads from the woods and strap the graphite shafts to the strong arm to better protect them. I like the soft shell case the best because it has an extra set of attached pullout wheels which makes traveling with several large suitcases a breeze.

Hi, if you’re looking for a great destination for a golf trip think Turkey. I was unsure until this year, we stayed at the Sueno Deluxe golf resort, it has the Dunes and Pines courses. Stunning resort, stunning hotel overall an excellent trip. Have already booked for next year.

Dallas/Fort Worth golf

I live 45 miles from Kohler.

Late October will be hit or miss; could be one of the days that is 50 degrees or more likely, 40's with wind chill.

I'd bring a full complement of winter clothes, rain pants, headwear etc.

Fall swing season is usually better than spring swing season. Weather could be warmer and courses are in better shape.

Golf Digest has included “America’s Top Courses” for the 250th anniversary. More like classic courses than others listed as best top courses. The list started with Oakmont and other top private courses. There were 2 municipal courses. Torrey Pines for the post WWII period of municipal growth. The other was the Charleston Municipal golf course. Both as a successor to the first golf course in the US and for the MacDonald and Radnor green designs.

If you only have access to public courses, the Golf Club of Dublin is nice. If you don't mind driving an hour The Virtues is one of the best public courses in Ohio. It's east of Columbus. Westchester Golf Club is in Canal Winchester in SE Cbus. The Players Club at Foxfire is just South of Columbus. Cumberland Trail is just East of town. Champions and Turnberry are 2 nice Metro courses. You have tons of options.

I may be in the Dublin OH area the beginning of October. Chance to extend my golf season as our WI season winds down.

Can you give me your top three public courses near Dublin? (Say, within a 45 minute drive).

I'll probably play 2 rounds and practice the other day.

I do pay a little more attention to the lists by multiple magazines on the “Top 50 Public Courses” and do my best to get as many of those checked off my list as possible. I’ve been fortunate enough to get many of the USA and UK/Ireland ones done.

I was stationed at Ft. Huachuca in the early '70's. The on-base course (now Mountain View Golf Course) was pretty good. Held sufficient competitions -- stroke and match -- to keep competitive golfers involved. Not sure its status now. There is another course in Sierra Vista that appears to be at least semi-private, Pueblo del Sol Country Club. I don't have any information on that one, though. Never played it while based there and did not have time during a visit last year to check it out. The town has grown quite a bit since my days, with the old main drag, Fry Blvd, being overtaken by the build-up to the east and south. Lots of golf options on weekends or days off in the Tucson area and over toward Nogales. There are a good number of public and a bunch of semi-private or resort clubs that offer open play in both those areas, about an hour to an hour and a half away.

Nope, way up northwest of Phoenix. I’ve only been down that way once to visit Tombstone and Bisbee. Hopefully you can find some golf courses around there.

Cabo Area Golf Connections

I was so excited about receiving my Mini Rolling Duffle and Pro Traveller. Unfortunately in Australia, Club Glove does not offer the full suite of products and they are all sold through Titleist - and better for it with the Titleist logos. I can't believe how well put together they are: strong, robust, wheels just roll and are very sturdy and handles where they need to be. I bought it for TRS and makes going through airports a breeze. Could not recommend it more. What are everyone else's experience with the all new Club Glove?

My boss has used the Club Golf bag for years until recently. He was flying cross country to San Diego for their annual sales meeting and I offered to let him try my SKB hard case. Perfect for a carry bag or a Cart 14. When he got back, said it was the best he had ever used. He loved it over the Club Golf Bag. Don't use it much any more and told him it's available any time he needs it. He played college golf and they travel all over the world for the meetings. Not going to give it up, hoping to make a TT Invitational next year. Bought it in the 90's for $100 dollars. What an investment. Lifetime guarantee. Have replaced wheels and knobs on bottom once.
