What do you collect when you play a new course? (i.e. balls, markers, hats, bag tags, polos, head covers, yardage books, etc.)

Would love to hear what you collect, why you collect them, and some of your favorites!!! (I'm always looking for new places to go to add to my collections or new items to collect!)

I collect bag tags and polos (sometimes hats). Some of my favorite recent tags displayed on my bag right now are The Broadmoor, We-Ko-Pa, Grayhawk, Poipu Bay, and May River. I'm adding Pacific Dunes later this year (ecstatic to play it) and hopeful to get to play Torrey Pines when I'm in San Diego later this year if I can get a tee time!

Story behind bag tags, when I was a kid my neighbor gave me a garage sale set of Titleist blades and old Titleist woods, the bag was an old Oklahoma State leather bag from the 80s (I wish I still had it) and it was full of bag tags from courses all over the country, and the local country club. I decided if I ever had the opportunity when I got older to play destination golf, I'd collect tags. Now I collect tags!

I apologize if a topic like this already exists and I overlooked it!

I collect Birdie Books, I got one from every course that has had one. I have some from Spain, Germany, Ireland, and the USA. Just an unique item I have collected over time. The best one so far is the one from Valderrama Golf Course in Spain, great track.
  3. I usually pick up a logo ball, and maybe a hat if I'm feeling squirrelly.
  4. Ive recently starting doing balls, reason being every course will have them theyre relatively cheap and are easy to display. Couple reasons why I don't do other things:

-scorecards: pretty common for my scorecard to get chewed up over the course of a round, also if I have a terrible round I will have to look at the score every time I pull it out hah.

-ball markers: some courses don't put their actual logo on the ball marker for whatever reason and just not as easy to display as balls

-pencils: some courses have cool ones but most are pretty plain or boring and a lot are just a pencil with no writing on it notating the course

-yardage books/tags: a lot of courses don't have them

-clothes/hats: eventually they get used to the point where I need to get rid of it alternatively my closet would be ridiculous if I had clothes from everywhere that I never wore also the most expensive to collect

ill still buy these things it I like them at proshops but in terms of collecting, im all about logo balls

Different stuff from different courses but lately i have been trying to pick up the larger ball markers. I have a couple of "challenge coin" holders on my desk which is a good way to display them and they don't take up too much room. I have some bag tags and even some pin flags from some of the top courses I've played. Those flags are on my office wall at work.

I have to have a hat from each new course I play. Each year I do a golf trip to Monterey with my buddies and I get a new hat from each of the courses we play. I'm also pretty good at collecting double-bogey's!!!
  12. I usually always get a golf ball (have been doing it since I started and have close to 200 on display racks I've built). Occasionally I will pick up a shirt or hat if I find a nice one.

Always a logo ball and scorecard. Bucket sites get a shirt and/or warmer outer wear and sometimes a ball marker.

I found that the wooden "challenge coin" holders work great. I have two of them. I got mine on eBay.

I collect logo golf balls and I have two full racks (150+) course logo golf balls in my home office, plus a bunch of them scattered around inside club trophies, etc.

One thing I've heard that was a great idea was from a friend who framed a big magnet (I think his wife bought him a large magnet intended to stick to car doors, etc., and she flipped it over and framed it magnet side out) and he puts ball markers on the magnet in the frame. It would look great- the ball markers against the black magnet- and hold lots of markers.
  17. Hats, polos, and a coffee cup this year, I might have to start collecting either a ball or marker from new courses, either would probably last forever and make a pretty cool display of some sorts.

I am trying to play at least 1 round of golf in all 50 states. I currently have 14/50. Plan on knocking out several more states this year. I grab a logo ball from the 1st course I play in every state. If I play multiple courses in each state, I then substitute the original logo ball with my favorite course that I played. Been at this for only a few years, and figured it'll take me a while to get them all done.

I'm usually a logo ball type of guy but I think if I would play a major course like Augusta, I would take a little divot and maybe forget to put it back;)

I always collect ball markers when I play, but if I go to a course that the pros play I buy a flag and a bag tag. My favorites are TPC Boston, Sawgrass, and Bethpage Black.

I use to collect balls, but the wall in my man cave became so busy, that I have now started to collect pencils which takes up a lot less room and also cuts down on the expense for a retiree. Guess the main reason is space.
