A season of upgrades

    As a winter storm rolls into Alberta, I find my mind wandering back to all the great memories of the previous season.

    Although the weather didn't really cooperate this year, there were still many days of great golf.

    My upgrades started about halfway through the season when Igot an 11th hour phone call to fill a spot at a charity tournament. After purchasing an arms length of mulligans for $20 the volunteer asked me if I would like to enter a draw for a set of irons. Noticing that they were a set of 718 AP2's I was quick to answer yes and hand her $25. A funny feeling came over me that I was going to win thise Irons. Sure enough, my number was drawn at the dinner and I walked away with a shiny new set of sticks.

    My second upgrade came late in the season when I was on a boys trip out to BC. We were playing at Golden and all the demo clubs were on sale. I decided to take out the TS2 3 wood and give it a try. After a mediocre warmup at the range we got our round underway. Not having many opportunities to try the club through the front nine, I didn't think I would buy it. All it took was a couple of strikes with this beauty on the back nine and sweet deal from the pro and the club had a new home in my bag.

    While winter grabs hold, I will try to dial in the new weapons during our indoor league.

    At least shoveling snow can help with some core strengthening.

    Congratulations on winning the clubs in the draw. What an awesome way to get your hands on a set of AP2's. If you have a good set-up at the indoor facility, it may be worth while to have the pro double check the lie angle on the clubs to make sure you have them adjusted to your swing. That will certainly help ensure you get the most out of your new clubs.
    If they do not have the tools to adjust them for you (if needed) I am sure Jason would be able to help you out :)
    You have a great outlook on shovelling snow. Perhaps if I look at it your way, in that it will help strengthen my core, I will have a different view of picking up the shovel !

    Thanks Darius. I did go get the lie adjusted, as they had to be flattened out slightly. Now it is just about figuring out the new shaft which is slightly different then my 712 AP2's.

    Most people have no idea how important it is to be fitted. It can make a hugh difference in the performance of the clubs. Having said that, for me, I am straight off the rack after being fitted the last 3 times, standard length, standard lie. Still it is crucially important to have the correct shaft and proper lie based on one's swing. Trying to get golf buddies to understand this theory is almost as difficult as telling them they need to be hitting a better golf ball, not one they found in the pond.

    What's wrong with a ProV1 I find in the pond ? Other than it is obviously not afraid of water...
