I bought a sleeve of the new AVX balls. I compared them with my 7 and 5 irons over many swings on my launch monitor in my garage. The AVX consistently gives me 10+ yards with the sam swing speed compared to the Pro V1. My carry distance with the 7 iron went from 155 to 165..same 81 mph swing speed. The RPMs were nearly 2,000 less at times---same club same swing speed.

I used them on course today---real world results. I came "this" close to jarring and 8 iron from 151 after the ball hit and jumped toward the cup and stopped 6-8" away.

Titleist has a real winner here.

David: I've been playing the ProV1 for years and like having the ability to choose the yardage and have the ball one hop stop on the greens. Have also become used to judging distance for chipping, expecting the ball to check up.

One concern I ever have trying a new ball is whether or not I'll get this kind of stopping power. It sounds like you added distance and the ability to stop the ball on the greens. Correct? If yes, I will have to give it a try.

Though I still love my Pro Vs around the green on chips, pitchips and pitches, there is no denying that I am getting extra yardage off my driver and longer irons with the AVX. So, it has become my primary ball with Pro V still a favorite and I will continue to play it some days. I figure it won't be that hard to get used to the characteristics of both the AVX and Pro V1, so this way, I can be comfortable playing either. There isn't a big difference around the greens to begin with. AVX is a great ball overall. I fell in love with it since November when I got my first dozen on vacation in Florida. I will continue playing Pro Vs whenever the greens get really fast, but the AVX is my main ball for now. I get a better ball flight and more distance, yet still with excellent characteristics around the greens. And in some wind, the AVX is fantastic.

They stop for me---maybe just a slight bit of roll out depending on the angle of descent. The lower RPMs with the gap wedge (my 115 and in club) really gets the ball to stop and stick.

What I have not done a lot of is chipping and pitching with them.

I say buy a sleeve and try them.

We were given a sleeve of NXT Tours n the first night of league. I've played 3 rounds with them now. Two of them casual rounds on crappy, May season greens in the northwoods that putted like horse apples. Last eve played nine after work with my wife at our home course. The greens are in very nice shape. Shot even and was hitting my irons right on the flag. Could easily have been 3-4 under with a drop and stop ProV1. The NXT rolls out, so instead of having a short putt for birdie from below the hole, I had 15 footers from above with break. I'm back to the ProV for league today.

I'll try the AVX if we have them in our pro shop and see how they compare. But no more NXT's for me.

Saw an online review of the AVX (www.dallasgolf.com/.../) that supports what you said about iron distance. Their tests showed driver and wedge distances to be similar, but the AVX to be about one club longer off the irons, mostly due to lower spin. I've tried it and had some extremely low-trajectory iron shots off tees on par 3. I think I need more testing.
