Titleist Ambassador Ernie Els Becomes First 3-Time Winner at Dubai with Eagle on Final Hole

Fairhaven, MA (March 7, 2005) - One of golf’s truly international players, Titleist ambassador Ernie Els proved once again why he is among the best in the world. Els, who plays the New Pro V1x golf ball and counts the new Titleist Pro Titanium 905T driver among his full bag of 14 Titleist golf clubs, posted a dramatic eagle on the 547-yard par 5 final hole to capture the Dubai Desert Classic for a tournament record third time. Trailing by one shot, Els reached the 72nd green with a driver, 6-iron and converted an 18-foot putt to secure his first victory of the year. He closed with a 4-under par 68 to finish at 19-under 269, one-stroke clear of two players, including New Pro V1 loyalist Stephen Dodd. The win was the 54th of Els’ illustrious career, including his 19th PGA European Tour title.

In addition to the New Pro V1x golf ball and Pro Titanium 905T (9.5) driver, Els relies upon a new Pro Trajectory 904F 3-wood (15.0), Forged 670 irons (3-P), prototype 2-iron, new Vokey Design Spin Milled sand (54) and lob (60) wedges, and a Scotty Cameron by Titleist prototype putter. Els was the only player to eagle the final hole on Sunday.

PGA TOUR: At the Ford Championship at Doral, which featured the strongest full field event of the year, more than five times as many players relied upon Titleist (99) golf balls than the nearest competitor (18). In fact, 7 of the 11 players who finished among the top 10 and ties trusted Titleist for their success including Vijay Singh (Pro V1x) and Zach Johnson (New Pro V1x) who tied for third place, David Toms (5th/New Pro V1), Jose Maria Olazabal (T6/New Pro V1), Retief Goosen (T8/Pro V1x), Angel Cabrera (T10/New Pro V1x) and Dudley Hart (T10/New Pro V1).

Nine of the top 10 players in the world rankings were in the field at Doral, 7 of whom made Titleist their golf ball of choice.

For the fourth consecutive event on the PGA Tour, a Scotty Cameron by Titleist was the putter choice of the champion. In fact, through the first 10 events this season, Cameron putters have been played by six winners, compared to two for the nearest competitor.

ASIAN TOUR: It was a Titleist showdown at the Thailand Open where New Zealand's Richard Lee trusted the Pro V1 golf ball to capture his first career Asian Tour title, topping Pro V1x player Scott Barr with a par in a sudden-death playoff. Both players finished regulation at 9-under par 279. A total of 120 players teed up Titleist golf balls at the Thailand Open, over 100 more than the nearest competitor with 13.

With two more wins this week, Titleist advanced its 2005 victory count across the worldwide professional tours to 19, 11 more than the nearest competitor with 8 and more than all other competitors combined.
